Shortage of energy, water, food. Overpopulation, poverty, terrorism, wars, diseases. Threats to the environment, to school systems, to democracies. Insolvable issues? Too universal and interconnected to think about intervening? And yet, to try to solve them, we\u2019re have at our disposal more and more incredibly potential tools.<\/p>\n

Two weeks in the Silicon Valley, the second of which at the visionary Singularity University<\/strong>, whose mission is to educate, inspire and give strength to the leaders of tomorrow to be able to put to use unrestrained technologies and overcome the great challenges that Humanity has to face, and I am more and more convinced: despite the wounds that afflict the planet, this is the best time in the entire history of our species to be alive. <\/em>Because, now more than ever, historic changes are at our fingertips.<\/p>\n

Ray Kurzweil, founder of the Singularity University,<\/strong> in his book \u201cSingularity is near\u201d writes: \u201c\u2026the pace of change is accelerating. The evolution of science and technology is not a linear process, but rather an exponential process: its own acceleration tends to increase. And the exponential growth is explosive, at a certain point it goes forward so fast that it causes a paradigm shift. Three areas, in particular, are fostering it: genetic engineering, nanotechnology and artificial general intelligence; and the evolution of each of them fosters and accelerates the evolution of the others. What will be the result? A tremendous strengthening of human beings, who, thanks to these technologies, will be able to overcome their organic nature\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n

Soon we will witness a huge democratization process, that will dictate a change of mental setting unthinkable for the majority of us. Thanks to the dematerialization of products and services, each of us will be able to self-produce objects and energy. Many fields will face an unprecedented de-regulation. In 2020, more than 5 billion people and 50 billion devices will be interconnected.<\/p>\n

The list of wonders is long and astonishing. Each year, the medical field <\/strong>already generates more data than the ones produces in the entire human history and for 1000 dollars you can discover your DNA. Soon we will be able to evaluate 10 thousand markers with a simple blood test, we will diagnose illnesses from an early age, we will print anything in 3D, from food to organs, and we will look into the mirror and see a simulation of the effects of a disease or a of bad eating habit.<\/p>\n

Now is the time to take our life in our hands, <\/strong>going from the century-old linear dimension to the exponential dimension. A wave that will undermine the traditional centers of power, clashing with stagnation and anachronisms. The governments, the regulators and the institutions, continuously sinking into the quagmire of bureaucracy, and thus incapable of making innovative and effective decisions. The companies, trapped in procedural habits and in the outdated executive mind patterns. A school that teaches only about the past and a short-sighted civil society, filled with pessimism and fatalism. On the other hand, the Exponential Society is within our reach. And each of us will be able to make a difference.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
